Originally designed for submarine exploration and diving, the Engineer Hydrocarbon Original 43 Ref. DM2218B-S1CJ-BE is equally at home in the water and on dry land. This 200m water-resistant, multi-finished steel watch measures at 43mm wide and 14.55mm tall, is not only versatile but suitable for most adventurers and explorers wrists, as well as more urban and conventional individuals.
The Original’s unidirectional bezel is graduated from its mid-case for easy adjustment by user at optimum level, even when the user has diving gloves on. The bezel insert reminds one of bakelite ones from the early 60s and 70s, while seemingly nostalgic, Ball uses a curved sapphire material with their signature micro gas tubes internally that glows for night reading capability. Now onto its movement that ticks inside the Original. Powered by the COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Insitute) certified automatic BALL RR1102-CSL caliber. The caliber features a central hour, minute and seconds, along with its patented Amortiser shockproof system. Inside the movement itself, the SpringLOCK and SpringSEAL systems ensure continued accuracy in the event of shocks. Beside, the Original is able to withstand shocks up to 7500G and anti-magnetism to 80000 A/m thanks to the mu-metal shielding.
